Oh Baby, I miss you!, 2011 (sculptuur)
Ernesto Neto’s soft, biomorphic sculptures draw the viewer into a sensual relationship. The shapes entice you to come closer and you are almost tempted to touch them – and that is exactly the point. The work ‘Oh Baby, I miss you!’ is all about connection, eroticism, and desire. The contrast between the hard framework and the soft fabric creates a tension similar to the electricity that can be felt between people. The fabric is pulled down heavily, so that it seems to become not one but two shapes, like a pair of testicles. The overpowering sense of missing someone that comes with erotic desire, seeking balance, is almost palpable.
