Wafae Ahalouch el Keriasti, Enlightenment Dances #1, #2, #3, 2021 (Collage)
Wafae Ahalouch is fascinated by (inter)human power struggles that follow from traditions and customs. In this work, the dancer interprets the power of life as a primal human being. Here she embodies free thinking, as she is in touch with her own power and life energy. The illuminated dance is also a reflection on the relationship between gender, spirituality and religion. The role of the woman can vary enormously: on the one hand ‘mother nature’ symbolizes the earthly primal force, on the other hand femininity often represents bad qualities, such as Eve eating the apple and thus bringing an end to a heavenly existence. The role that women are allowed to play is determined by culture and even more by our ‘stories’.
